Introducing Yourself in Hebrew
Basic Introduction:
Template: שָׁלוֹם! אֲנִי _______. (Shalom! Ani _____.) "Hello! I am _____."
Example: שָׁלוֹם! אֲנִי דָּוִד. "Hello! I am David."
Adding Details:
I am a student: אֲנִי תַּלְמִיד (Ani talmid) - male אֲנִי תַּלְמִידָה (Ani talmidah) - female
I am a teacher: אֲנִי מוֹרֶה (Ani moreh) - male אֲנִי מוֹרָה (Ani morah) - female
Full Introduction:
שָׁלוֹם! אֲנִי שָׂרָה. אֲנִי תַּלְמִידָה. "Hello! I am Sarah. I am a student."
Describing People Around You
Family Members:
This is my brother: זֶה אָחִי (Zeh achi)
This is my sister: זֹאת אֲחוֹתִי (Zot achoti)
He/She is good: הוּא טוֹב (Hu tov) הִיא טוֹבָה (Hi tovah)
Using Your Vocabulary:
The teacher is in the house: הַמּוֹרֶה בַּבַּיִת (Ha-moreh ba-bayit)
My friend is a student: הֶחָבֵר שֶׁלִּי תַּלְמִיד (He-chaver sheli talmid)
Describing Your Surroundings
What's Around You:
This is a book: זֶה סֵפֶר (Zeh sefer)
This is the house: זֶה הַבַּיִת (Zeh ha-bayit)
The room is big: הַחֶדֶר גָּדוֹל (Ha-cheder gadol)
Counting Objects:
I have three books: יֵשׁ לִי שְׁלֹשָׁה סְפָרִים (Yesh li shloshah sfarim)
There are two students: יֵשׁ שְׁנֵי תַּלְמִידִים (Yesh shnei talmidim)
Building Complete Thoughts
Sentence Patterns:
Pattern 1: I am... אֲנִי + [what you are]
Examples:
אֲנִי טוֹב (I am good)
אֲנִי בַּבַּיִת (I am in the house)
אֲנִי תַּלְמִיד (I am a student)
Pattern 2: This is... זֶה/זֹאת + [what it is]
Examples:
זֶה סֵפֶר (This is a book)
זֹאת מוֹרָה (This is a teacher - f)
זֶה הַבַּיִת (This is the house)
Pattern 3: The ___ is... הַ + [noun] + [description]
Examples:
הַבַּיִת גָּדוֹל (The house is big)
הַמּוֹרֶה טוֹב (The teacher is good)
הַחֶדֶר קָטָן (The room is small)
